General information about the conference

The Conference will be a major event dedicated to Company Law. It is the 6th conference within the CECL series of conferences dedicated to Company Law, the previous editions took place in Leiden, Utrecht, Maastricht and Uppasala. The purpose of upcoming Conference is to create an important forum for debate among experts from all over Europe. The organizers expect up to 140 participants – academics, legal practitioners from Polish and international law firms, business representatives and representatives of financial market institutions. It will focus primarily on company law reforms in CEE states, nonetheless those issues will be presented in the wider perspective of evolution of European Company Law. There is also a banquet after the first day of the Conference, which provides the networking opportunity for all of the speakers and participants of the Conference. The underlying idea of the Conference is to shed light on the Company Law harmonization and modernization from the CEE perspective. It should focus both on the political economy, path dependences and driving forces of the reform process as well as on substantial laws. The so-far dominant perspective has been on the transplant-driven developments. While this remains a valid angle, it now merits to add legal innovation and leapfrogging as parallel phenomena. The Conference will provide analysis of mutual interactions between company law in CEE and the European Acquis. The experience of law reform in CEE will be utilized for and confronted with the efforts being made by transformation economies enhancing their company law frameworks, such as Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova. The Conference will embrace two days. The first day should be filled with panel discussions and interactive sessions, involving speakers with diversified backgrounds: academics, practitioners, regulators as well as business owners and managers. The second day will feature presentations based upon papers selected from among submissions in response to an open call for papers associated with the Conference.
